Physical & Health Education
Mission
We are committed to providing opportunities for our pupils to discover and develop their lifelong interest in physical activities or interest through Physical Education. PHE Department oversees the Physical, Health, Outdoor Education (Learning for Live Programme) and CCA in Shuqun Primary School. The PHE Department aims prepare students to be healthy, active, and able to meet 21st century challenges that they will face over the course of their lifetime. At the end of the 6 years, students will be able to understand and demonstrate all the skills and knowledge of being a physically educated person.
Key Programmes
Sports Carnival is a sporting event that will expose pupils to various Sports or Physical Activities.
Pupils challenged themselves at every stations and point scored will be recorded in the score card. Every point scored by the pupils will accumulated and the scores contributed towards their class points. The class with the most number of points will be eventual level champion for the Sports Carnival.
The Carnival also serves as a formative assessment platform for each pupils and will provide pupils with feedback on the PE skills to improve on to achieve better PE grades.
The National Physical Fitness Assessment (NAPFA) test was introduced in Singapore schools in 1982 at the secondary and pre-university levels and in 1992 at the primary level. Since 1992, the percentage of students passing the NAPFA has been used as an indicator of the fitness level of our student population. The design of the test items in the NAPFA test has evolved and the norms have been updated regularly. NAPFA is compulsory for P4 and P6 students.
Test Stations
NAPFA involves a series of five stations and 1.6 km Run. The first 5 station tests are attempted on one day, with a 2- 5 minute rest period permitted between stations while the 1.6 km Run is attempted on another day with at least 2 days rest interval.
The test items are:

2. | Standing Broad Jump | Better of two distances |
3. | Sit and Reach | Better of two attempts with floating zero point |
4. | Inclined Pull-ups | Maximum in half-a-minute |
5. | Shuttle Run | Faster of two 4×10 metre attempts |
6. | 1.6k Run | Minimum time on firm and level surface |
3. Dental Awareness Programmes
To educate a students on dental health and hygiene.
• Primary 1 focuses on proper brushing techniques.
• Primary 3-4 focuses on good dental practices.
• Primary 5-6 learn in more detail about causes of tooth decay and prevention.

5. All Children Exercise Simultaneously (ACES) Day
We have ACES every end of the term to encourage and motivate children and teachers to exercise regularly. ACES takes place all over Singapore to promote proper health and fitness habits as it is part of a national effort.
