Applied Learning Programme
Objectives
In alignment with the school’s Vision, Mission and Values, our ALP - Caring and Responsible Environmentalists (CaRE) is anchored on the focus area on the environment. Through our ALP, we strive to strengthen connections between learning across different subject disciplines and develop 21st CC and skills in our Shuqunites.
Figure 1: ALP Framework
The objectives of our ALP are as follows:
Through engagement in the learning of environmental issues, students learn the necessary knowledge, skills and inculcate values which will enable them to demonstrate compassion and be willing to make a difference. The ALP lessons for all Primary 4 and Primary 5 students are structured in a pedagogical approach “Learn, Explore and Apply”, by which students deepen their learning of environmental issues in an inter-disciplinary manner, and apply their learning in a hands-on, minds-on manner through design thinking.

P4 ALP Waste Management (2022)
Our P4 students embarked on their ALP journey anchored on the theme of Waste Management this year. Using the Design Thinking approach, students are able to connect their learning through different subject disciplines such as English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, CCE, Art and Music to solve waste management issues. They gain deeper understanding on how they can play their part to save the environment and contribute to building a sustainable nation. Our students develop skills and 21st century competencies as they collaborate to come up with various creative solutions. Students also learn to be resilient as they try multiple times to improve their solutions.
Environmental Education Curriculum
Through our school’s Environment Education curriculum, our Shuqunites learn more about environmental issues happening around them and raise their awareness about the environment so that they can transfer their learning into positive actions. This curriculum focuses on key areas of environmental conservation.
ALP Tier 2 Programme
Green Club CCA / Green Ambassadors
Green Club CCA members and Green Ambassadors who are passionate about caring for the environment, play an active in advocating and influencing others to adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle through outreach activities for the community and school. During Youth for Environment Day, they prepared videos to educate their peers about recycling and pollution. Besides spreading environmental-related messages to others, they perform daily checks during recess and lunch to ensure that their peers are recycling their recyclables properly. Our Green Club members also play active roles in in taking care of the plants in our school’s Edibles Garden.
Makers@Shuqun
Our Makers@Shuqun programme engages students in fun hands-on-activities to develop their inventive thinking, collaboration skills and positive mindsets towards learning. As our Shuqunites immerse in these hands-on minds-on challenges, we hope to inculcate a dare-to-try spirit and a growth mindset in them.
